Our purpose as a church is simple... loving, learning, living. These three words also summarize the three steps which are essential to every serious follower of Jesus Christ.
Matthew 22:37-40
Jesus said to him, "‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."

Mount Vernon is a church on mission for Jesus Christ. After He died on the cross, was buried and resurrected from the grave, He left His disciples one final assignment – make disciples. In Matthew 28:19-20 (NKJ) Jesus said, "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
We believe we cannot fulfill the assignment Jesus has given us unless we are intentional about making disciples. As we study the scriptures, three essential ingredients stand out in the process of disciple-making: loving, learning and living. We believe each is essential and none can be omitted from the life of a committed disciple. The church does not exist to produce casual, indifferent Christians. If you are seeking a relationship with God and are serious about following Christ, we welcome your involvement in our fellowship. |

We use the word "learning" to identify the second priority of our lives. As we worship God it is essential that we grow in God’s grace. Just as our physical body gets stronger through healthy growth, our spiritual life needs to grow stronger. Spiritual strength equips us to face the struggles of life with grace. Healthy spiritual growth needs food and an environment which encourages growth. The food is the Bible. The environment is a Bible study group. We believe small group Bible study is essential to the health of a serious disciple of Jesus Christ. In groups we find others who struggle with the same conflicts we face. In small groups we gain encouragement and prayer support to make it through difficult moments. In small groups we learn the principles of scripture which lead us down the right roads of life. Get connected to one of the many small groups available for every age. Sunday morning Bible study groups meet at 9:00 am and 10:30 am. Click here for a full list of available classes. Additional small group studies are available throughout the week through the Discipleship Training ministries of Mount Vernon.
